Tips for beaching with babies or toddlers
Beaching with babies and littles doesn’t have to be hard – if you’re prepared and mentally ready to take on vacation in a whole new way! Here’s some tips from what I’ve learned while beaching with littles.
- Positive attitude: You’ll work for 45 minutes for 15 minutes of relaxation. It’s still fun I promise!!!
- Flexibility: My kids are super scheduled, so sticking with your kids’ normal schedule will help you figure out what they may need at certain times during the (hopefully) sunny day! Although they are very routine, going with the flow is key to not losing your mind.
- Baby powder: Help gets sand off the skin and it doesn’t hurt.
- Portable fan
- Baby tent: my son has been a huge crawler, roller, wiggler since about 5 months. This was worth it for us. Blocks the sun and helped keep him in one spot. We hooked up our mini fan to the side or pointed it at him on the ground when he was sleeping.
- Swim suits: I advise a long sleeve swim suit because then you’ll only have to put sunscreen on the leggies. I linked my favorite one!
- Rolling wagon: it’s a must!!!
- Uncrustables, veggie straws, applesauce, snacks, snacks and more snacks.
- Sunscreen before you get to the beach. Lather everyone up before you even leave the condo.
- Food feeder: Ice, watermelon, fruit!
- Blow up pool: since most condominiums allow you to keep floats by the pool or downstairs, I would highly recommend having a blow up pool. It’s an entertaining feature when kids need to “get their own water from the ocean” to bring to the pool by where you are sitting. A pool lets the littles and babies play and cool off as well.
- Floats: buy one for baby that has a shade. My daughter also enjoyed a float where she could feel the water but wasn’t in the water. (She had a slight fear of water during her 3rd summer. This helped). I can’t find the float, but this one is similar.
- For toddlers and little kiddos, freeze capri suns and water bottles. They’ll melt quickly and are extra cold.
- If you are staying in a condo, make sure that you have an elevator. We trekked two kids, wagon and cooler up and down the stairs every day and making sure we had an elevator would have been a game changer.
- Shaded home base: something to block the sun and chairs to sit on. Don’t think just a towel will do it – rent or buy the chairs! Have some kind of umbrella or shaded spot for cooling off. Pop up tents are also great.
- Swim diapers are obviously a must, but I didn’t actually put a swim diaper on the babies until they were getting in the water. Since they only filter pee and not collect it, you’ll just get peed on constantly. Take extra diapers and wipes because you can never have enough. Here’s my favorite diaper/wipes holder – house, beach, stroller, anywhere.
- Don’t forget the life jacket or safety vest!
